I am very proud and honoured to be your President for 2016, and thank you all for your kind words and encouragement

The AGM went very smoothly this year. A major change is to the Secretary, Harold Winstone,he has served us so well for many years. He has stepped down due to ill health. We owe him a real debt of gratitude. Thank you Harold, please continue your journey back to fitness .

Past President Vic Bye,who did a grand job as President last year, has bravely taken up the position of Company Secretary.

Thankyou also to Richard Jackson, who gave us a brilliant reminder of how good our Fire Security is covered. His explanation was very well received.

Jane Walker and Geoff Powell had a very enjoyable joint birthday bash and also raised £900 pounds for their chosen charity, Maggies.

On the bowling front Ladies County Fours, Margaret, Carol, Rosemary and Jeannette won through to the next round, results are on the Website. Club competitions are proceeding well, I will look forward to the finals.

A little joke to finish on ---- A man arrived home from work and noticed that his father seemed to be avoiding the grandchildren. "What's the problem?." he asked. "You usually love playing with them." The old man produced a medicine prescription from his pocket and said,"Read the label.Thats why!" The son took the bottle and read the label. "Take two pills a day. KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN."

President Vicky

This is my last prattle. It has been a great honour to be president of this wonderful Club.
I would like to thank all of you for your support during the year. I hope the same support will be given to the next president.
Special thanks must go to the members, staff and caterers who made the Junior International Weekend in September such a great success. I feel that it certainly put City & County Bowls club on the international bowls map.
This was held on Sunday 24th January. I asked for everyone to wear green. Some members even came as elves? The spider was won by John Drage and the highest rink went to A Keen D Richens R Lucas and C Pollard (the elves).
My thanks to you all for supporting this game as a result of the spider and the raffle I will be sending a cheque to Macmillan Cancer Support for £ 250.00.

It is a shame that the entries are down on many of the competitions.

The draw for all Club Competitions has now taken place and the relevant sheets are on the notice boards.  Please note carefully the play-by dates and whether you are the Challenger or not.  It would be helpful to everyone - players and Competition Secretaries - if you could get your games played in good time wherever possible and avoid leaving it to the last minute.

I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year

Entry forms for all club competitions are now on the Notice Boards so please give it a go this year - you never know your luck.  Closing date is 6th November so there is still time to get your form in.

A word of thanks to all members who have been putting their names up for

matches this has made the Captains job a little easier as they have not had to chase people to play.

Finals Weekend

We had a fine weekend for our Club finals and there were some very good games.  Well done all the finalists and congratulations to the winners.

Our Men's Club Singles Champion this year is Paul Lopez and the Ladies Singles Champion is Katherine Hawes.

Congratulations to Paul Lopez on winning the champion of champions on Sunday 20 September.

Katherine has I am very pleased to say has retained her place in the Senior England Squad. Also Donna has been named as a travelling reserve

Harold Winstone

I have spoken to Harold's family. He is progressing better than expected, and can now walk unaided.

He is also talking better but still gets tired.

It is hoped that he will soon be moved from the hospital, exactly when is not known.

As I have said before the family have asked that a rota be set up for members of the bowls club wishing to

visit him. Should you wish to be added to this rota please let me know either by phone or email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Bowls England - Junior International Series

What an amazing weekend of bowls. To see so many under 25's playing at that level was a wonderful sight, in such an electric atmosphere. Although there were many spectators it was a shame that many club members were not able to witness it.

The British Isles Bowling Council (the organisers of the competition) were really pleased with the Club's efforts. A letter was sent on Monday congratulating the Club (it is posted on the notice board by the bar).

My thanks go to all the members, green keepers, caterers and bar staff who helped to make it such a success. It would be nice if we could more events like this.

Bedfordshire Tourists

After a late arrival the match was played with the threat of rain, but we only had a light shower. We won the match comfortably but they were pleased with their welcome. My thanks to those members who were able to play.

Annual Dinner and Presentation of Prizes

This was held on Saturday 26th September and was preceded by a match in the afternoon, it was disappointing to see so few bowlers. It was a sunny day, and a very enjoyable afternoon was had by all.

The dinner was well attended and we were very pleased to welcome the Ladies County President, Wendy Cross together with the Men's County President, Steve Tolhurst as our guests.  We had an excellent three course meal followed by the presentation of the trophies to the Winners and Runners Up by the two County Presidents.

Indoor Summer Bowling

The Indoor Pairs Competition was won this year by Elaine & Trevor Gethin

The League by the Firs with the Aces as runners up

City & County's Paul Lopez

Win's Oxfordshires Champion of Champions

Paul Lopez recovered from a nightmare start to beat Watlington's Sam Watts 21-16 to lift Oxfordshire Champions of Champions title at Oxford City & County.

Playing on his home rink, Lopez lost six of the first seven ends to trail 9-1. But he got into his stride, taking eight of the next nine ends to lead 15-10.

The game developed into a marathon, before on the 26th end, Lopez scored a three to secure the silverware.
