ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL INDOOR CAMPAIGN.

So we see yet another indoor winter league season coming to an end……stretching from the end of September until the second week in April, some 89 teams took part on a weekly league basis - split into several different leagues; viz

Monday morning league, Monday mid-day league, Monday evening ladies league, Tuesday mens league, Wednesday afternoon league, Wednesday evening mixed league, Thursday morning league, Thursday evening ladies league and the Friday evening mens league………….

That everything went so smoothly is in no small way thanks to the efforts of the individual League Secretaries - so a big thank you to Phyl Austin, Liz Sims, Margaret Stacey, Sam Watts, Margaret johnston, Brian Flitter, Graham Kerr and Pat Austin…..and who can forget Jan Cook who had the task of collating it all.

Of course, each league had several teams competing ……..some teams with funny sounding names, others were called after flowers, some animals, I see in there and some with names which made no sense at all!!!!!……..but as time went by, we all got to know the groups of lads and lassies who constituted their team. I hesitate to announce the names of each group winner, for to an outsider they might just think that we had 'lost it' somewhere along the way - suffice to say, it was all very serious stuff…….but not forgetting that some banter was allowed - whether some liked it or not!!!!!

However, however…..the winning side from each group came together for a Champion of Champions evening - always an event to look forward to.

The Final was keenly fought, with the Blackbirds who won the Monday Morning League, taking on the mighty Optics from the Friday Mens League. The Blackbirds took the honours and were represented by Carol Gaskins, Liz Bye, our President, Vic Bye and that other stalwart of many a year, Richard Jackson.

All good stuff I might add and very well done and congratulations to the Champion of Champions!

Now we come on to the results of the Individual Competition Finals…..a special mention to our Oxfordshire under 25 Bowler, Sam Watts for a deserved hatrick.
2 Singles and a Pairs win (with Adie Twinn).  For the Ladies, Jan Gore takes two out of three……well done Jan!

Again, so much work going into administering these competitions and so a big thank-you to Gary Gray and his lovely wife Jacky who do a splendid job as our Competition Secretaries.

So much more going on of course, the Tens, Wessex ets etc……but I will leave it to my other colleagues to paint the picture on these events.

We must not forget our organised 'roll-ups' which take place twice weekly and will continue (under the watchful eye of Keith, Alan and Pat) - along with so many of our other members who make their own arrangements.  Shortly our Wednesday Indoor League will start - always popular.

If anyone reading this would like to contribute, I am sure our Web-Master, Merv Gleeson would be pleased to hear from you. (for those who don't know him and would like to put a face to him, scroll up and look at the picture of our 'Tens Winners and you will see him with a broad smile at the extreme right of the picture.

So there it is folks, another new dawn with our outside season being officially opened by our President Vic Bye last Saturday.  Whether its outdoor or indoor for you now - (or both!), I wish you all good bowling, good friendships and of course, Good Health.
