PRESIDENT'S PRATTLE JANUARY 2015

UNDER 25'S

Our Junior Section of the Club are doing well this year defeating Foxhills in the first round of the David Cornwell Under 25 Double Rink Competition.  Both home and away teams had good wins, giving us an overall score of 47-34.  The home team of Katie Glenn, Gavin Higgison, Ben Dickson and Skip Joe Glenn won 21-15 and our away team - Carlos Lali, Jonathan Dadson, Connor Hathaway and Skip Sam Watts won 26-19.  Having lost to the same Club last year in this competition, this was a very satisfying result.  Well done lads and lassie. Good luck in the next round which is on Saturday 3rd January 2015 at 10 a.m. against Westlecot so come along everyone, give our young players your support and cheer them on.  They are after all, the future of bowls.

Congratulations must go to Sam Watts who played extremely well in the Westlecot Open Singles run by Planet Bowls last month.  He reached the semi-final but lost to the eventual winner of this competition.  Well done Sam - keep it going.

CLUB NIGHT

The Christmas Club Night held on 6th December was another resounding success. Our thanks must go to the Organisers who decorated the Clubhouse beforehand and worked very hard to make the evening go with a swing, to Jenny for her lovely food and the Witney Town Band for their excellent programme of carols etc.  Thanks too to all of you who came and made it such an enjoyable time.  The next Club Night will be on Saturday 10th January commencing at 6.30 p.m. so don't forget to make a note in your nice new 2015 diary.

CHRISTMAS RAFFLE

Many thanks everyone for making our raffle such a success.  All the prizes have now been claimed with the exception of one, the winner of which is on a world cruise and will not be back until the New Year! (That wasn't the prize by the way!!) We actually sold £980 of raffle tickets, spent £507 on prizes and raised £473 for Club funds.

MATCHES

We had four mixed matches in December, winning the first three (click here for a fuller report) and the fourth was our annual encounter with Whiteknights immediately after Christmas.  This is always a very popular game and this year - as I was in charge! - I am glad to say was no exception.  We had a very good result there, winning on 5 rinks and drawing on the sixth.

We have ten matches fixed for January so please get your names down and support your Captains.

PRESIDENT'S DAY

This is being held on Sunday 25th January commencing at 2.15 p.m.  Everyone plays - everyone welcome - young/old, new bowlers/established bowlers.   It will be a normal 2l end game with a meal to follow so please sign up and come along for an enjoyable afternoon's bowling.  Dress will be casual but bowling shoes a must and no jeans in accordance with Club rules. Please wear something red - anything you like - to brighten up the game.
