RECENT FRIENDLY MATCHES:

We have been kept busy with many interesting friendly matches - well aren't they all interesting!

Since the 20th November we have played in seven games - been on the winning side for six of them, but coming unstuck at Avon Valley in Warwickshire.

20th November.
We entertained our old foes from Kidlington (friendly ones……..I think!) in an evening game and after a slow start, we ran out comfortable winners. Help, I haven't got the score to hand though. Our HWR consisted, John Drage, Bob Scholes, Alan Keen and the ever reliable June Watts. Have to say a Hot Shot 8 helped the cause!

22nd November
We hosted Witney Town- we ran out winners by 105 to 86.  On this occasion on our HWR was Peter Baskerville, Richard Jackson, Sylvia Holmes and Peter Boyle. We won on 3 rinks, drew on one and lost the other.

23rd November
We travelled to Avon Valley Bowls club in Warwickshire - but alas, despite our best efforts, had to admit second best - going down 116 - 128. We did have a HWR though…….Keith Croxon, Eileen O'Shea, Bill Britz and Bob Hands. What was particularly pleasing however, was that we did take six rinks - which bearing in mind our club was involved with  both the Tens and the Wessex on the same day, was a great effort by everyone concerned.

29th November
Saw us again being the hosts - this time welcoming Bletchley. Another hard earned win with Brian Stewart, Margaret Johnson, Vicky harrison and Jacky Gray claiming the HWR. Match score being 126 - 110 in our favour.

30th November…..The match scheduled against Foxhill was postponed and will now take place in the New Year - the 4th January.

4th December
And another home match - this time, we entertained West Witney…..it was a triples match resulting in a 102 - 87 win for the home side.  HWR was claimed by Chris and Sue Lewis and Alan Holmes.

6th December
And we welcomed Wantage for a match of 6 triples.  This time the HWR went to June Watts, Shirley Buckingham and Graham Kerr in what turned out to be another winning effort….this time the margin being 110 - 83.

13th December
…….We travelled to Banbury Cross….this was an exceptionaly close encounter and it was only on the last end of the last match still on rink that we managed to get four shots to help us to a winning score by 118 - 115.  (should add that this was achieved by Colin Pollards team with Bob Scholes, Alan Keen and Kathy - who had the misfortune to be on the end of the HRW against - so at least they did something useful!!!!!)  Denis Richens, Ron Howes, Pat Strange and Alan Scholan with our HWR on this occasion.  Should add that in their Captains comments on the game, he did mention that this was the first loss that they (Banbury cross) has suffered this term…….well, what can one say…….

My grateful thanks as ever, to Merv Gleeson (our webmaster) for the continuing success of this form - which seems to be read in increasing numbers.
