PRESIDENT'S DAY - 17TH AUGUST 2014

I had a great day on Sunday, the sun shone a bit, the clouds threatened a bit and the wind blew a lot but we had fun and didn't get wet.  The afternoon started with a "spider" (won by Vic Bye), followed by the match.

I had invited 5 Club Presidents from Oxfordshire to bring or send along a rink each to play for me against a City and County side led by Captain of the day, Colin Pollard.  They all came and "played their socks off for me" (that means the President's team won overall!!!).  I did lose on my rink however, Colin not understanding that he was supposed to let me win!   There was enough City and County players to form a further 4 triples and so two of these also played for me.  It was great to see both greens being used and practically full.  Thank you C & C members for all  your support.

I was very pleased to welcome the visiting rinks from Abingdon (Captain Peter Baskerville), Hagbourne (Vice-Captain Howard Rose), South Oxford (President Keith Mobley), Thame (President Hazel Westcott) and Witney Town (Mel Cameron).  Thank you so much for coming and supporting me.  I hope our links and association with you all will continue for many years to come.

It was great to see some of our "retired" bowlers too who joined us for the meal after the match, together with a new bowler who has promised that she will take the plunge and be bowling in next year's President's game.

When I went into the Clubhouse during the game for the usual comfort break, the tables looked lovely - just as I wanted it.  Jenny and Jill had done a grand job and with Keith's flowers, it was a picture.  After the game, we had a superb meal - (roast beef + trimmings, black forest roulade and cream with cheese and biscuits to follow).   Thank you once again Jenny and your helpers.

My highest winning rink turned out to be the triple of Jacky Gray, Alan Keen and Carol Penson with Liz Bye, John Jarvis, Myra Lewis and Graham Kerr being the Captain's highest winning rink.

I had such a wonderful and memorable day and hope you all enjoyed it too.  Thank you, thank you everyone for making it so special.
